THE REPLACEMENT OF JOHN TERRY AS ENGLAND'S TEAM CAPTAIN: Rio Ferdinand's Own Scandal

One of the more surreal moments in Sports occured last week when England manager Fabian Capello sacked John Terry as team captain & designated Rio Ferdinand as replacement. The decision came in the wake of the furor created by media reports on Terry's extramarital impregnation (& consequent abortion) of a teammate's ex-girl friend. The British public was divided whether the private affairs of a football player had any bearing on his field performance. Capello probably thought he was still in Italy where dilemmas like this are perfunctorily handled as morality plays with an expected victim & a subsequent cathartic punishment. The ridiculous thing is that the replacement figured in his own scandal a few years ago when he & Frank Lampard were videoed having extramarital sex with a couple of fans during a vacation in the Carribean. I kinda foresee some musical chairs ahead. Will Rio be still the team captain during the World Cup in South Africa later this year?

UPDATE: The final captain of England is Steven Gerrard
